California state beaches are famous all over the country. Not only does California have some of the best beaches in the entire US, but they also have some of the best beach access in the world. Although this is a little known fact outside of California, all California beaches are public access. This means that, even if you own beach front property, you have to give people some means of accessing your beach. Either you have to provide a path, a road, or directions to some sort of alternative access.
This means that there are is no shortage of California beach. The only problem that you run into is that it is hard to pick out the best California beaches. There are so many miles and miles of open coastline to choose from, after all. People in every area have different views of the California best beaches. Some people love the open sandy beaches that are so popular among tourists. Other people like the rocky, more rugged shores like you get in some California State Parks. It all depends on where you are, what you're looking for, and how much effort you're willing to put into finding the perfect beach spot.

Some of my favorite California beaches are at the Point Reyes National Seashore. They almost never get very crowded, even during the summer, because they are a bit of a drive from any major metropolitan areas. It takes several hours to get to Point Reyes California beaches from the Bay area, so people only go if they really want to take an all-day holiday.
Nonetheless, it is worth the drive. They have a whole wide range of California beaches, from the mild to wild. The Sir Francis Drake beach, for example, is a great place to take kids who want to wade around in the ocean little bit. It is a sheltered cove, so the waves are never too big. If you drive a little north or south of that beach, however, you can find a much more rugged shore with much bigger waves. In the north of the park, you can even walk out on a long spit of land so that you are surrounded on all sides by the ocean. It is a great experience, and I highly recommend trying it out. Just be careful that you plan your walk carefully. If you wait too long to get back in, you can be trapped by the tide. You definitely don't want that to happen.
